Co-Curricular Activities Home

Shillong Science Center held a two-day long programme on the theme "Science for Development" on 26th & 27th February 2016. Various competitions were held including Painting, Debate, Essay Writing, Open Quiz, etc. A large number of schools took part in these competitions.

Students from Loreto Convent took part and won prizes under the following events:

1. Debate - First Prize - Eshika Purkayastha (Class IX)

2. Essay Writing - First Prize - Nilaruna Roy (Class VIII)

                              - Second Prize - Drishti Rao (Class VIII)

3. Painting - First Prize - Udita Dutta (Class IX)

All the winners received their prizes from the Honourable Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Dr. Mukul K. Sangma.


On the occasion of World Health Day on 7th April 2016, Loreto Convent Shillong held a Health Camp on the 7th and 8th of April 2016 in the school for the school children. On the 9th of April, the same Camp was held at the school’s Outreach Centre at Umphyrnai for the children and locals there. Doctors from NEIGHRIMS Hospital and doctor parents of the school children had generously come forward to make this Health Camp a possibility and a success.

The whole school was abuzz as students lined up for their check-up, some teachers were minding them and there were some who had donned the chef’s hat to cook up breakfast and lunch for the doctors.

A beautiful conclusion to the Health Camp was witnessed at Umphyrnai where the children and grown-ups alike lined up for their check-up. Though the Camp was a small step to help them, the appreciation and gratitude amassed in the end made it worthwhile.


A team of doctors from AIIMS-Delhi visited the school on the 25th April 2016 as part of the Pink Chain Campaign to hold an awareness program on the deadly disease "Cancer". This initiative by Punarjeevan, an NGO was supported by North Eastern Council (NEC), Government of India, Shillong.
The main speaker was Dr. Abhishek Shankar, IRCH, AIIMS, Delhi Chief Co-ordinator, Pink Chain Campaign. He spoke to the sisters, teachers and students about different types of cancers, their causes and symptoms. Though it was such a serious topic undertaken, he managed to enlighten the gathering in a very light hearted manner without instilling fear. A lively and informative interaction session followed from which everyone benefitted.


The 1st of May being a Sunday, the Crowning of our Lady was held on the 2nd of May.

The Sisters, teachers and students gathered in the school hall for this special occasion. The Prayer Service started with a scripture reading followed by the Crowning of our Lady. The Asst. Head-girl put the garland around the statue of Mary while the Head-girl placed the crown. At this time, the hymn Come Ye Children of Mary was sung. Four girls from the Junior school dressed in white added to the beauty of the scene. The Vice Principal Sr. Shanta led the gathering in saying a decade of the Rosary which was followed by the Litany of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary.

At the end, the hymn Bring Flowers of the Rarest was sung while children walked in a procession and placed candles and flowers at the foot of the statue of Mother Mary. The Principal, Sr. Molly gave the concluding speech.


The students of class X and XII with their class teachers organized a memorable day for the Support Staff on the 2nd of May, 2016. The day started with a Prayer Service and after a short break, an entertainment programme followed. It included songs, dances and games which each member of the Staff enjoyed. A PowerPoint presentation depicting the support staff while at work brought smiles to everyone's faces. 




On the 26th July, The LTS Unit of the School organized the Inter-House Debate Competition. Participants were divided into three groups according to their class.

Group I

Classes VI and VII - Junk Food is Detrimental to Health

Best Speaker : Shared by two students - Ri-iariti Sohliya (VI) and Hiyaeijanery Das (VI)

Best House : Gandhi House

Group II

Classes VIII to X - Technology improves Learning Experience.

Best Speaker : Baphikor Khyriem (X)

Best House : Gandhi House

Group III

Classes XI and XII - Media is a pillar of Democracy

Best Speaker : Baferisa Shabong (XI)

Best House : Gandhi House

The Independence Day Celebration began on a solemn note with a Prayer Service led by the JPIC. This was then followed by a Cultural Programme which showcased the diversity of India through the different songs and dances put up by the students. Ms. Pauline Warjri, a past pupil of the school and also a renowned musician, who was the Chief Guest, spoke at length about the true spirit of Independence. The Principal, Sr. Archana Gomes rounded up the programme with her speech.
