Dear friends,
We, Loreto owe much to Mary Ward, our Founder whose Vision was far in advance of her times and the Mission of empowering young girls and women through` Education’ which began 400 years ago. We see this empowerment as the distinguishing feature of all our educational efforts and are convinced that it takes place best in our school. We create awareness amongst the staff, students and parents that a preferential love for the poor is lived out by us both in our attitudes and structures. We carry on this special thrust by giving sound, moral, spiritual and value-based quality education. Our schools become places where truly the glory of God is manifested. Tireless effort put in by the Sisters and staff has contributed to the life and progress of the school. Many young minds that have passed through the portals of this school have been making great contributions to the society and the world at large through their dedicated service to Humanity thus keeping in mind what Mary Ward prophesied many years ago, “Women in time to come will do much”. The time is now!
Loreto Convent, Shillong began in 1909 headed by Mother Mechtilde Costelloe and her companions. It celebrated its 100 years of presence here in Meghalaya in 2009. The staff of this school maintains a high standard of loyalty..
